Top 10 Books of 2019

“What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”- Tim Ferris
At the beginning of the year, I set out to read many, many books. Then life happened. What I’ve learned is that I’d rather admit that I’m a slow reader. The books I’ve read this year have motivated me to try scary things, challenge myself to be more intentional, and allowed me to find self-compassion. Here are my favorite selections with quotes from the books I’ve read this year. Check out my entire list on Goodreads. I’ve already started stacking up books and magazines for 2020 reading. Let me know what has motivated you!

1) The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have by Mark Nepo

“Over time, staying real becomes the work of keeping our actions in the world connected to the truth of our inner being, allowing our True Self to see the light of day.”

2) The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life: Before 8AM

“Remember, the moment you accept total responsibility for everything in your life is the moment you claim the power to change anything in your life.”

3) How to Find the Work You Love by Laurence G. Boldt

“you need the sustained motivation that comes from having a real passion for your work, and that requires a self-defined sense of purpose.”

4) High-Performance Habits: How Extraordinary People Become That Way by Brendon Burchard

“When you learn the difference between busywork and your life’s work, that’s the first step on the path of purpose.”

5) The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle

“Any action is often better than no action, especially if you have been stuck in an unhappy situation for a long time. If it is a mistake, at least you learn something, in which case it’s no longer a mistake. If you remain stuck, you learn nothing.”

6) The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

“To enjoy life, you don’t need fancy nonsense, but you do need to control your time and realize that most things just aren’t as serious as you make them out to be.”

7)Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck

“no matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment.”

8) You Are a Badass Every Day: How to Keep Your Motivation Strong, Your Vibe High, and Your Quest for Transformation Unstoppable by Jen Sincero

“If you run from your fears, they will follow you. If you run straight at your fears, they will get the hell out of your way. Fears hate it when you do that.”

9)The Miracle Equation: The Two Decisions That Move Your Biggest Goals from Possible, to Probable, to Inevitable

“The purpose of a goal is not to reach the goal. The purpose of a goal is to become the type of person who can achieve any goal, by always giving it everything you have, regardless of your results. It’s who you become through that process that matters more than actually reaching any one goal.”

10)3 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do: Take Back Your Power, Embrace Change, Face Your Fears, and Train Your Brain for Happiness and Success by Amy Morin

“Good habits are important, but it’s often our bad habits that prevent us from reaching our full potential. You can have all the good habits in the world, but if you keep doing the bad habits alongside the good ones, you’ll struggle to reach your goals. Think of it this way: you’re only as good as your worst habits.”
